New Skin

If you could see through my eyes
And see what I can see
If you could stand in my shoes
And walk along with me

 If you could feel my fear and pain
If you could get into my brain
If you could think my thoughts for me
And wrestle with my mind 

Then I would know that you could see
How difficult it is for me
But knowing you I doubt so much
That you will hear or see 

And that my shoes will fail to fit
And you’ll just laugh at me 
So now I know just what you are
And we’re discussing price

Just take your fill of what you want
For I’ve got loaded dice
And no matter what you take or steal
It’s nothing of a price

To rid myself of years of pain
To feel a new wind blow my vain

So close the door on your way out
And crawl into your hole

It’s much too high a toll 

And now you’re gone I’m happy
You’ve now become the past
The smell that used to linger
Has disappeared at last 

And as the sun brings each new day

The pleasure this will give me
Only I alone will know 

For now I’ve met another
Whose love gives me the strength
To be just who I want to be
And knows no limit or length
